President’s Message – Summer 2012

by Jeff Scalzi on July 18, 2012

While it’s hard to believe, we are past the halfway point of 2012. With summer vacations and fun times with family and friends to look forward to as the warm weather settles in, as an organization I am proud of what we have already accomplished this year and look forward to keeping the momentum going.

A brief recap so far: On February 28th, more than 200 members gathered for a celebration at the Grand Hyatt New York in honor of our 20th Anniversary. If you haven’t had the chance, view some photographs from the event provided by Gittings and a wonderful video presentation courtesy of Intelligent Video Solutions.

On March 14th, over 110 of our members traveled to Dallas to attend the 2012 LMA Annual Conference. Later that month, we held the Chapter’s 2012 Annual Business Meeting, which was graciously hosted by Bingham. At the Annual Business Meeting, we presented information on membership and financials, as well as the initiatives, goals and objectives of the Chapter and its Committees and Special Interest Groups (SIG).

In April and May, our monthly programs resumed with the April 19th interactive workshop at the 3 West Club entitled “Unpacking and Mapping Your Career Business Plan.” In May, we learned firsthand how to get along with our colleagues in IT at “IT Speak: How to Effectively Communicate, Collaborate and Cooperate With Your IT Team.” We also held several successful Committee, SIG and City Group events during these months.

In June, we welcomed back Bruce MacEwan and were joined by The American Lawyer reporter Sara Randazzo for “Teachable Moments from the Fall of Dewey,” which provoked a lively discussion and provocative questions and answers about the demise of Dewey & LeBoeuf. Our July luncheon program, “Should Firms Help Promote Individual Attorneys?” was held July 19 at SNR Denton and received rave reviews.

Next up? Time for some fun! Our marquee Summer Soiree will be August 9, 2012, at the Bryant Park Grill.  With record attendance last year at this annual event, we are expecting a huge turnout and look forward to seeing you all there. Until then, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Chapter, Committee and SIG leaders. A special welcome to Matthew Loomis, Business Development Coordinator at Anderson Kill & Olick who has assumed leadership of our Future Leaders SIG. Welcome, Matt!

Have a great summer, all, and look forward to seeing you soon.
