NYLMA June 18 Luncheon: How to Get Senior Partners to Understand the Benefits of Social Media

by Brandie Knox on June 30, 2015

NYLMA members were treated to a different vantage point on social media in the legal industry at the chapter’s June 18 luncheon. The program featured three prominent lawyers offering their perspective on the benefits of social media, as well as a top legal marketing pro and a leading social media consultant for law firms.

The panel at the sold out luncheon, hosted by Cooley LLP, included:

  • Frank Aquila, Partner, Sullivan & Cromwell
  • Susan Joseph, General Counsel, Raiseworks
  • Judy Selby, Partner, Baker Hostetler
  • Taylor Massa, Communications Specialist, Cooley

Guy Alvarez, Chief Engagement Officer at Good2bSocial, a frequent speaker at LMA events, moderated the panel.

He began with a few statistics based on recent research his firm produced. Shockingly, we learned that 37% of AmLaw 100 Managing Partners do not have a profile on LinkedIn and only 16% of Managing Partners have a Twitter account.

Hearing directly from actual senior attorneys engaged in social media was quite refreshing. All three lawyers consistently offered anecdotal information as to how they have been using social media effectively.

Live tweets were displayed on either side of the podium so audience members were able to see live commentary from those in attendance, thus gaining insight into what was resonating with the group. On a personal note, not only did I pick up a few followers, but I am also now following a few new, dynamic colleagues in the industry.
