Chapters from Other Chapters – Summer 2015

by Tom Mariam on September 29, 2015

Other LMA chapters besides Metro New York offer members enlightening programs, networking opportunities and thought leadership. In “Chapters from Other Chapters,” we share a sampling of recent events and ideas from other LMA chapters around the country:

Capital – “LMA Capital Chapter Annual Half Day Program: Influencing the Client Experience”

The Capital Area LMA chapter is offering a special morning-long program on Wednesday October 28 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Influencing the Client Experience. Attendees can expect to experience:

  • Direct quotes from in-house counsel on what law firms are doing right and where they can do better
  • TED talks on how firms are creatively responding to today’s marketplace and partnering with their clients
  • Breakout sessions with your peers to develop responsive action items related to the talks – take them back to your firms and reenergize yourself and your colleagues

The program will be hosted by Sidley Austin at its Washington office (1501 K Street NW). For more information, including registration, click HERE

Midwest – “Reputation Management and Crisis Communications in Law Firms”

Legal marketers from the Midwest gathered Sept. 3 at the James Hotel in Chicago to discuss both short- and long-term elements of crisis communications and reputation management. Through a series of fictional yet plausible scenarios, attendees were given examples of the importance of having a sound crisis plan and trained spokespersons in place, different ways to effectively handle and diffuse a crisis, and techniques for turning a crisis into an opportunity for marketing and business development.

The panel, moderated by Jeremy Persin, Marketing/PR Manager at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, featured:

  • Kathleen Flynn, Chief Marketing Officer at Bryan Cave LLP
  • Larry Larsen, Senior Vice President at Greentarget
  • Kellie Mullins, Associate Director of Global Public Relations at Sidley Austin LLP

Rocky Mountain – “Mental Toughness & Leadership

On July 14, the Rocky Mountain LMA chapter gathered for outdoor cocktails, networking, and a discussion on mental toughness and leadership at work. Speaker Matt Phillips of Profi Priorities International shared key mental toughness techniques you can implement immediately, enabling you to form key habits, behaviors, and mental focus that can be sustainably put into practice either at work or at home. Those simple changes can have a massive long-term impact on your future outlook.

Texas – “Texas Think Tank”

The Texas Think Tank is the regional conference of the Legal Marketing Association – Texas Chapter (LMATX), which brings together members from city groups in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio in addition to many others from across the state. This year’s Texas Think Tank will be held in Houston on November 5-6.

The conference, the largest gathering of Texas legal marketers, provides a full day of conversations relevant to both seasoned law firm marketers and those new to the industry. The chapter is mindful of providing content that speaks to everyone from large, global firms to small shops operating on very limited resources.
