Outgoing President’s Message – Seth Apple

by Seth Apple on January 26, 2016

Apple, Seth 2014As I took the mic for the last time as President during our 2015 Annual Holiday Party, I paused to appreciate the moment. I couldn’t believe 12 months had passed since Kelly Mackinnon handed me the Metro New York LMA gavel.

I spoke to many of you that afternoon as we celebrated another year past and shared our respective war stories, each of which seemed to be marked with a common characteristic – consistently high volume. Regardless of where you sit at the legal marketing / business development table (rank or function), everyone seemed to be operating at full tilt in 2015, all year long.

As we kick off 2016, let’s celebrate this consistency. Busy is good, real good (though, a small summer lull would have been nice). It’s good for our employers, good for our industry, and good for each of you. Our impact on the firms we support, from the day-to-day to the bottom line, has never been greater or more embraced. Our talent, tools and deliverables continue to become more sophisticated and the industry is primed for our influence on the business of law. In short, it’s a good time to be a legal marketer and a member of the Legal Marketing Association.

The Legal Marketing Association and your Metro New York chapter had record years in multiple areas. Nationally, the 2015 LMA Annual Conference was the highest attended conference in the history of the organization, the 2015 P3 Conference grew by more than 25 percent, and the collection of professional development offerings expanded almost daily.

In Metro New York, we grew to over 630 members and recorded more than 1500 attendees at our annual programming for the year – both records for the Chapter. The national and local support for your growth in our industry has never been stronger. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to your success, and by extension, the success for the Legal Marketing Association.

A special thank you to the 2015 Metro New York Chapter Board of Directors, Committee and SIG Chairs, and Business Manager, Sue Russon. I am grateful for the support each of you, and the membership at large, provided me and our organization this year.

All the best to our new President, Melissa Seitter, the 2016 Metro New York leadership, and each of you in 2016 and beyond.

Seth M. Apple
